Quick answer
To upload a website file with aaPanel Free Edition, open Files, navigate to the website's document root, click Upload → Upload File, select the file, then click Confirm Upload. Open the corresponding HTTPS URL to check the result.

Before uploading
Have a working website/domain and SSL certificate. Confirm its document root in Website → site settings → Directory. Back up existing files before replacing anything. This tutorial uses a harmless HTML page with a new filename so it does not replace the homepage.

1. Open the correct site folder
Click Files. Navigate to your site's document root. In our lab we opened wwwroot and then the dedicated lab domain folder. Do not upload into the general server folder or another website's directory.

2. Prepare a simple test file
Create a local file named adminsforum-file-manager-demo.html with your editor. A minimal test is:
Code:
<!doctype html> <html lang="en"> <head><meta charset="utf-8"><title>Upload test</title></head> <body><h1>AdminsForum upload test</h1><p>The file is live.</p></body> </html>
Save it as .html, not .html.txt. Our screenshot uses an original styled AdminsForum demo page.

3. Upload the file
  1. Click Upload in File Manager.
  2. In the Upload File dialog, click Upload File and select your local file.
  3. Check the filename and size. At this stage the upload can still show Not Started.
  4. Click Confirm Upload. Selecting the file alone does not finish the upload.
  5. Wait until the transfer finishes, then confirm the filename appears in the site's file list.
If an overwrite prompt appears, check that replacing that exact file is intended and that a backup exists. Do not overwrite configuration files accidentally.

4. Open the file over HTTPS
Visit https://your-domain.example/adminsforum-...-demo.html. You should see your test page. Replace the example hostname with your actual domain.

5. Understand homepage filenames
This test file has its own URL. It does not become the homepage automatically. The site's Default document setting controls which index file loads for a directory. Before replacing an existing index.html or index.php, back it up and check how your application starts. A full CMS or framework also needs its application configuration, dependencies and database.

Common problems
  • 404 Not Found: check the exact filename, capitalization, domain and document root. Confirm the upload finished.
  • 403 Forbidden: check permissions, file ownership and access rules. For a directory URL also check whether a default index file exists.
  • Old page still appears: open the exact new file URL and check browser/CDN caching and which index file is configured.
  • Missing images/styles: upload referenced assets into their matching folders and check relative paths.
  • PHP code displays as text: stop and investigate the site's PHP handler configuration before uploading sensitive PHP configuration files.

Do not use 777 permissions as a general fix. Keep files readable by the web server with the minimum permissions required by your application. Never place database dumps, private keys or backup archives in a public website directory.

What we verified
On 10 October 2026, we used aaPanel Free Edition 8.0.6 File Manager to select and upload a new original HTML file to the dedicated lab website. We clicked Confirm Upload, confirmed the file appeared, and opened its HTTPS URL successfully. The existing homepage was preserved. ZIP extraction and deploying a CMS are separate procedures.
